Suga International Holdings Limited (“SUGA” or the “Group”) announced that Dr Ng Man Cheuk, Alfred, Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer of the Group and Chief Executive Officer of the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) Division, has won the “Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong 2020” in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hong Kong’s industrial sector and the society.
Joining SUGA in 2014, Dr Ng has been responsible for exploring new business opportunities and overseeing research and development (“R&D”) activities, and is also in charge of EMS Division. With a view to optimising the Group’s internal systems, Dr Ng spearheaded the implementation of SAP, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution systems (MES) at SUGA, so as to effectively manage the manufacturing process at the factory in Dongguan. Besides, the Group adopted the end-to-end tracking of orders and the mass customisation planning approach, thus improving production efficiency and inventory management. In respect of its production capacity layout, the Group established a highly automated plant in Vietnam in 2018 to capitalise on opportunities arising from the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the flourishing economic development of the country. The Group’s new factory in Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam is scheduled to commence operation in 2021, which will also be operated in a highly automated mode.
As for R&D, Dr Ng established an R&D team focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile applications that enable SUGA to develop advanced products. Armed with its enhanced innovation capability, the Group has encountered new business opportunities, and also obtained plenty of patents, registered many trademarks worldwide, and earned numerous awards, such as the Certificate of Merit presented by Asia Smartphone Apps Contest; and the Outstanding Solution/Product awarded by Asian Electronic Forum.
Dr Ng has persistently strived for opportunities to diversify the Group’s business, in order to create value for shareholders. Capitalising on the solid foundation of the Group’s electronics business, SUGA entered the booming pet products market in Hong Kong and Mainland China under his leadership while at the same time creating an innovative ecosystem for enhancing the health of pets. Besides, Dr Ng has lined up investment opportunities for SUGA and at the same time supported local and overseas start-ups, such as Growgreen, Mobilogix, Concept Infinity and Dott. Aside from financial support, Dr Ng also sits on the board of the aforementioned companies, offering valuable business insights and input.
While fully committed to the advancement of SUGA, Dr Ng also recognises the importance of contributing to the industry and the society. Apart from sharing his insights with the industry, Dr Ng is very keen to collaborate with local research centres and universities. He serves as a visiting professor at the City University of Hong Kong (“CityU”), and also a member of the Electronic Engineering Departmental Advisory Committee. Moreover, he has participated in various projects, including the sponsorships offered to Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited for its Auto-Fitting Smart Materials and Electronics Platform Technologies, and CityU for its “User-centric, Difficulty-sensitive Document Retrieval” project. Recently, Dr Ng has been appointed as the Director of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, in which he will be working closely with other Directors to facilitate the development of technological industries via innovative and application technologies, thus enhancing the competitiveness of Hong Kong.
Dr Ng said, “I am truly honoured to receive the Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong, a recognition of my contribution to SUGA, the industry and the society. The award also belongs to the entire team. Without them, I would not have been able to lead the Group to achieve steady growth over the past five years. I hope that this award can send a positive message to the Group, the young generation as well as the entire society. Even the world has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic during the year and all industries have to face new challenges, opportunities still exist in such challenging times, and we will be able to take on challenges one after another by continuous innovation and the spirit to overcome difficulties. Looking ahead, my team and I will lead SUGA into a new era, contributing to the development of local electronic industry and social development.”
Launched in 1988 by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong aims to give recognition to the young industrialists aged 45 or below for their outstanding achievements in local industries and major contributions to the economy and social development of Hong Kong, in order to inspire more young talent to join the industries, and also practise and promote the spirit of pursuing excellence in local industries.
